Colorectal Cancer in Hong Kong
According to Hong Kong Cancer Statistics of 2019 published by Hong Kong Cancer Registry, both the incidence and mortality rate of colorectal cancer rank the second in the 10 most common cancers, with a record of 5,556 and 2,174 cases respectively*. It is believed that early detection and treatment help considerably in combating cancer.

“CRC developed from polyps”- Relapse is possible even if polypectomy was performed
Research indicates that CRC is developed from small or untreated polyps in most cases. While small or benign polyps are asymptomatic and difficult to detect in which special tests are needed, early detection is key to prevent cancer and improve survival rate.
Causes of CRC
- Smoking
- Alcohol consumption
- Obesity
- High stress
- Low fibre intake but with high consumption of meat
- Colorectal polyps
- High age group
- High consumption of processed foods
- Family history of colorectal polyps or colorectal cancer
